The other spruce fly; pretty much like a Letort Hopper without the turkey underwing (lot of the same steps from the Goddard and Jughead here). Hope Gary and Chester are out fishing a run right now and the trout are looking up.
hook - Dai Riki 320 #14
thread - UTC 140 cream
body - dubbing tan/hare's ear mix
wing - bleached elk
head - bleached elk, spun/trimmed
Part 1
Mash down barb, attach thread at 50% and wind back to the bend
twist dubbing on thread
dub body
cut a good clump of elk, clean and stack
measure against the hook, let the tips extend about hook gap distance behind the butt
with hair pinched to hook, 2 soft loops right on top of each other; draw the bobbin slowly and firmly towards you but maintain pinch so it doesn't spin, hair will flare in the front
wrap some lead wire around wing to keep it out of the way/protect it during the trimming process; push/pack flared hair back against wing with fingernails
cut and clean another clump of hair and trim the tips; make this one shorter than the first clump since you're going to spin it
hold it on top, 3 soft loops
draw the bobbin slowly and firmly towards you and allow hair to spin around hook shank; pack, tie off and Sally
