I'm from Minnesota. The one idea I have is to take a trip out to Hayward WI and maybe get a guide for a day. The downside is I dont know how fishable it is for a fly angler without a boat or a drift boat even. I have a 16' lund boat that I could bring if that would work.

Any thoughts of what else I could do. I wouldn't mind traveling a little bit too. I mean farther that wisconsin.
Here.... http://www.wetieit.com/ . Bill is a great guy and he and his staff guide for a little of everything from trout to walleyes to musky.

Or.... http://www.tightlinesflyshop.com/ Nationally known and recognized for their smallie trips. I have known these guys for years and they are very, very good.

Both will cover everything that you need and answer any questions you may have. That said, if you end up opting for the Tightlines trip, let me know. I live about 30 miles from them. I will take you out for free (I'm a guide too) for river smallies if you have some free time.
