I believe that Orvis has stopped putting expiration dates on their tippet. No doubt this is because fishermen would buy the spool with the latest expiration date, leaving the older tippet unsold on the shelf. I used to buy Orvis non-fluorocarbon tippet simply because I knew how much life it had left. In the absence of expiry dating, however, I have moved on to fluorocarbon, which does not really get old and brittle. At least I know that the fly shop is not selling me tippet that is old and likely to break at less than its stated pound test.
