It's 2:15 pm EST here in SE PA 60 miles northwest of Philadelphia, raining steadily and stronger as the afternoon goes on. The winds have picked up at bit this afternoon, but the gusts are still pretty tame, I'd guess at 15-25 mph max.

From the looks of the weather map, the worst won't get here until later this afternoon and throughout the evening.

We're about as ready as we can get - plenty of food, water, a generator for back-up, etc. And, a big roll of duct (or is it duck?) tape.

    Jesse,

Here is a site that is showing some of the "happenings" in Duck--north of your friend. And the farther south you go, the damage increases. Being from the Miss delta region, she should be accustomed to this sort of thing.

Watching MSNBC coverage of Hurricane Sandy (category 1) as it came on shore, at "high tide"! The combination of Hurricane Sandy, with the Cold Weather coming down from Greenland, with a Winter Storm that is coming in from the Central USA is creating a Storm that will combine and become a monster that has more energy then Hurricane Katrina (in the Mississippi Delta.

FEMA is in place to come in to the damaged areas, as soon as the sun rises this morning, National Guard is already on the ground in many of the most damage areas on the coastline.

At latest numbers on MSNBC, over 7.1 million people are without electricity.

This storm will continue over the rest of this week going to the northeast going back offshore after leaving Maine. This storm is covering an area as far west as Michigan, and it also is having effect with our neighbors to in Canada!

Luckily this time there is not as many dying from this storm..... this time we had people in government at all levels; cities, counties, states, and federal government, including President Obama who knew what his priorities were by ending his campaign for reelection and returned to the White House to deal with this storm was coming, and got the people and supplies in place to have feet on the ground when the sunrises today!

My prayers are with all those who have been force to hunker down, or leave the low lying areas. My prayers are also with those at all level of government who will be going in harms way!

checking in from a close-in suburb of Washington, D.C.--7 inches of rain in 36 hours, biggest gust over the back porch measured 64 mph, but this time we kept our power. got the freezer all cleaned out and made big pot of chili to live on just in case. now we don't have to cook for a bit.

but gee, has it turned cold and raw! 38 F this AM.

if you need your Federal Government for anything, they'll be back in the office tomorrow. it's been really nice and quiet with the Metro shut down!
fly fishing and baseball share a totally deceptive simplicity; that's why they can both be lifelong pursuits.
