On our West Coast, we sometimes get East winds which are adiabatic compression winds dropping down the coastal range bringing hot, dry weather to the coast. The salmon/steelie fishing goes to hell while this is on. It may last more than several days. I believe the fish sense the pressure difference.

You might be correct. Fishing and fish are much more complex than I can possibly understand. A lifetime of learning for sure is in the offing.

    Pete,
I would believe it because of the well known effect of the fish turning off following the passage of a cold front and the accompanying rise in pressure! I'd like to know if the "Chinook" condition in our northwest has the same, opposite or no effect. Also how the fishing goes in the Owens Valley when atmospheric standing waves form over the Sierra Nevadas and further east. Maybe tyflyer can fill me in if he sees this post!
