I would try the South Platte river. Which covers a lot. Deckers, dream stream(Spinney mountain ranch, Spinney res, 11 mile res., Cheesman Canyon, 11 mile canyon, When someone says Souith Platte that covers alot of water.....Being that you will be in Colorado Springs for just a short time I would concentrate my efforts in 11 mile canyon it's an easy 45 minute drive from Colorado Springs. There are also a couple of lakes on the drive to Pikes Peak. North catamount lake (30 minute drive) is for lures and flies only. Clear high mountian lake and beautiful. Bring a 8 1/2 or 9 ft 5wt rod....and a rain jacket. You can just about bet on a rain shower in the mountains every afternoon. This link should help a little bit with 11 mile Canyon....which is a tailwater. Catch and release only in the upper section. August you can get into several different hatches but it's pretty much a midge fishery.
