    Default Southern Vermont

Anybody have any suggestions on trout streams in VT in August. I know of the Battenkill, but anything else? Thanks

Drop me an email, and I'll point you in the right direction. Coincidentally, some of the photos on the site Ron mentions come from yours truly, and many of the fish pictured on my site come from southern Vermont.

Hope to hear from you ...

At that time of year, the Battenkill has a ton of tubes, canoes, and kayaks floating down, so the fishing can be iffy. If you're there midweek though, give it a try. I'm a big fan of the Metowee and Poultney Rivers. There's a lot of wild fish, and if you go far enough upstream, you'll always find cool enough water to fish. The tricos should be popping pretty well by then, and the first week or two of that can be spectacular there at the right time of day.

The Outtaquechee river is nice. It's up around Killington (A bit farther north). The upper stretches hold some nice brookies and down around the gorge there's some nice rainbow fishing. The White river and the Tweed are nice as well. The Lamoille is another awesome one, but it's up around Stowe.

    Hi Big,

I just fished the White River in early June with a guide named Brad Yoder. He's a good guy, who works hard for his clients. If your're interested, Brad's website is [url=http://www.troutonthefly.com.:eb68f]www.troutonthefly.com.[/url:eb68f]

There's a bunch of good trout water in Southern Vermont, much of it small streams that (given the amount of rain we're having here in New England this year) might fish well in August. The smallmouth bass aren't bad, either.

    Have fun!
