Default MATUKABOU STREAMER - Fly of the week - Aug 27, 2012

    MATUKABOU STREAMER

Some guys on the bulletin board asked me to send this fly, tied step by step. This pattern is not my creation, I saw it many years ago in a fly fishing magazine, but I can't remember which one was. Perhaps I made some variation of this fly along the years of fly tying, but this one works excellent for me.

Of course I was inspired in the well-known Matuka, the New Zealand's fly. Instead of 2 or 4 horizontal feathers as in the original, we use 4-6 binds (is it the correct word?) of marabou.

Juan, That is a neat change up on one of my favorite flys. Thanks for the FOTW article. Jim
I'm either going to, coming from or thinking about fishing. Jim

Juan, you ever throw that at bass? Very nice and fish appealing.

How many colors to you tye it in? I would think white and black would both be good and maybe a size 6 with yellow and olive alternated with red hackle and a light blue head for lakes with bass and bluegills.

Uncle J....as you can read in the article, the other options that work OK for me are...Black/ Red and Olive/ Orange. The first one is for the big browns at last light in the lakes, and the second one imitates the colors of a Pancora (freshwater crab). Good luck!
