well, I have typically used a sinking tip for large water or deep pocket water to get a nymph pattern down to the fish. That is what I use it for.
In clear water in MI crappies can spawn in 10 to 12+ ' of water. I used a 5 weight full sink to get at them and had a ball for a few years while I was in college
Has anyone ever tried those sinking tips that you can add on to the end of your floating line?
Was just wondering how well the worked.
I use them for steelhead fishing. They help get the fly down where the fish are, without having to use shot.
Terry, i've used those with quite a bit of success. They're nice when you don't want to carry around extra spools. The sinking polyleaders work well also. The only downside to them is they tend to "hinge" a bit at the loop connection.
I have used one of those attachable sinking tips also. I think that they are pretty great and generally defeat the purpose of owning a sinking tip line. Tough to cast though, but you get the hang of it pretty quickly.
Yeah, the regular sinking tip lines cast kind of like that too.
I have seen this discussed elsewhere and the upshot of the discussion seemed to be that they are by and large intended for moving water where one to get deep, fast.
Of course there are other uses as well no doubt but that was what the majority of users said they preferred them for.
And yes, they do require a whole nother approach to casting.

I use a sink tip line on the still waters that I fish. Tie on a Clouser Minnow and have a blast with the warm water species.
