    lastchance,

Those will fish and catch well.

I also like a bit longer hook and tail to let the hook hang down into the water. From experience, so do the fish. It also opens up the hook point to more easily be set.

A bit longer and heavier hackle will (as noted) help to make the hook more weedless. I have been known to tie in and wrap the hackle, then glue on the foam so I can use it to push the hackle to a backeward sloping angle, also helping to make it more weedless. (It helps it to side past the edges of lilly pads and such.) Sometimes adding a loop of heavier (10-20 lb) will be needed if I am gonna fish a heavily weeded lake/pond.

For hooks, I actually like using aberdeen hooks. I do this for two reasons. The shank is nice and long, and I am 'frugal'. I also seem to get better hooksets as the wire is a bit thinner than some other models in the same size. (Like the difference between a wet and dry fly hook.)

Good luck, and keep tying them!

Well, two inches since you're going to tie them on the hook shank in the middle of the leg.
