Hello,

I'm brand new to the sport. I've spent a little time on a lake in BC learning to cast, but so far am still very new (it was just enough to make me addicted). I've been pouring over books on the subject and working on my cast in my spare time. My problem is that I bought a cheapo rod to practice casting and have quickly decided I need different tackle for my upcoming trip to New Mexico. I have the opportunity to purchase a Quarrow rod for about 50% off the list price (here in DFW) and am debating if that is smart, or if I should go and find an entry level rod from Cabella's, Bass Pro or Orvis - all have retail fronts here in the area. I think I need a 4wt 8ft medium-fast action rod. This tackle would be for the smaller streams of New Mexico (per Van Beacham's advice). Any help on deciding which route is best would be much appreciated. And thanks for the great spot on the web!
