Homer Circle has passed away

I just learned that he passed away this past Sunday at his home in Central Florida. He was 97. I remember watching him on TV on Saturday afternoon, back before cable. And of course reading his "Ask Homer" in Sports Afield magazine.

God grant that I may fish
until my dying day;

I'll then humbly pray;

Uncle Homer is one of the last of the breed, so to speak. I enjoyed his column and reading his articles in the magazines at the barber shop when I was a youngster. I hope some of the young writers are filling in some of the spots left by his like, along with Ted Trueblood, Ed Zern, Gene Hill and Corey Ford my high school lit teacher may not have considered it fine literature, but I beg to differ.

I subscribed to Sports Afield in the 60's when I was a kid, just so I read his bass articles. One that I remember was his rubber band propeller fly held together with scotch tape!

When I first started fishing about 10 years ago I discovered a few books by Uncle Homer and he sure taught me a lot about bass and bass fishing. I agree with Uncle Jesse, one of the last of his breed. Godspeed Uncle Homer. Go rest high on that mountain.

It seems a lot of the fisherman from our TV past are dying out,just last month it was Frank White of thesouthern sportsman show,and I know bill dance,jimmy houston and other bass kings aren't getting any younger.

For many of us, that would be magazine past. I don't believe I ever saw him on TV.
Sad to hear he's gone.
