I was hiking up canyon along the ridge a couple of days ago after a good day on the river. At around the fifty minute mark I spied a lone angler down on a gravel bar along the river. It was he, more so than the landmarks that told me that the trailhead was nearing. As I passed by, several hundred feet above him on a cedar and juniper lined ridge, I noted how intently he was fishing. He never knew I was there and so, for at least a while, he probably thought he had the whole canyon and river to himself.

So for me and I'll bet the fellow down along that gravel bar the " Not talking to another angler is acceptable, and quite proper." advice is right on.
