Thread: Ft. Collins fire question

    Default Ft. Collins fire question

Scheduled to go on vacation to Rocky Mountain Nat'l Park with the family starting Saturday. We'll be driving in from the East, and I'm wondering about the effects the fire has had on the park, or if I should plan on re-routing from my intended plan on driving 34 through Loveland. I know a lot can change in the 5 days, but wondering if anyone close has input or recommendations.

    Thanks!

This map on the post has the current fire perimeter. http://www.denverpost.com/news/ci_20831968

I flew over the area on Tuesday, and Sunday. I must say, it's very sad. I happened to fly over it on Tuesday as it jumped the Poudre River and headed north. Beautiful canyon is going to take years to recover. Sad. It is getting perilously close to Fort Collins, but so far hasn't dipped south into RMNP or Loveland, Estes areas.

Life is expensive... but it does include a free trip around the sun.

On Friday they re-routed the big bike tour from RMNP to Ft. Collin to take 34 through Loveland and no smoke problems were reported. As you say, though, much can change this week and who knows which way the winds will be blowing the day you come through.

FWIW, we've had no smoke issues in Boulder so you may want to re-route your trip to go up to the park via Lyons.

RMNP banned all campfires and charcoal grills today, so take your gas stove.

Been some smoke in Estes Park some days, but otherwise no problems.
