    Default Recommendaton for Salmon

Will be going to Alaska the end of the month. The humpies (pinks) will be running in the creek near by. what weight and lenght fly rod would you take along? Also, what flies will workkkk?

I'm just taking a guess here about the weight of the rod but, I would say maybe a 9wt or 10wt and around 8' or 9'. I'm not sure about the flies but, I'll tell you what I would be doing. I would be calling guide services in Alaska near where you are going and find out first hand. Hopefully I too will be going in a month or two myself. Good luck

I have used a 7 weight 9' in Alaska for pinks, they're not that big. I used my Batson RX7, nice rod. Last year I broke it on a big Sockeye trying to land it up against the bushes and I high sticked. I caught a lot of humpies on a pink rabbit strip with pink cactus chenille body and with barbell eyes. Actually fair hooked, but you never know if they ate it or it just ended up there because I was swinging and stripping it.
