Default Boundary Waters Canoe Area Fishing

I just wanted ot let all of the other warm water fly fishers know about the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness in Northern Minnesota. I have been fishing this area for over 25 years and about 6 or 7 years ago got into chasing the bass and northerns on the fly rod. We went into a small lake that took us less than 2 hours to get into via a couple of short portages. In 3 days of fishing, we caught over 2 dozen smallies between 18" and 20" as well as some of the biggest sunfish I have ever seen! We didn't target the northerns on this trip, but I know of many northerns caught in the 37" range on this lake! So, if you are looking for a true wilderness fishing adventure with the chance of catching some trophy fish, give the BWCA some consideration. There are many outfitters in the area that can set you up and even a couple that have some expertise in the area of fly fishing.

That sounds like it would be a COOL trip!
Would love to see your pics of the bass and sunfish.

Welcome to FAOL! That is one of the places on my list of must-visits.

I've gone several times. I agree it is a place to experience. Unfortunately I wasn't able to plan a trip this spring, but maybe in the fall.

I will post some pics -- as soon as my paddling partner sends them my way! Went back in this past weekend, different lake but only a couple miles away. Not as good of fishing. Temp was in the upper 80's, windy, and major may fly hatches on every night. We did manage to pick up a couple of dandy smallies (18 1/2") but it was tough!
