Interesting read, and good discussion guys. I think it also has to do with fishing pressure. The spots I fish for bluegills around here don't get much focus on the bluegills. I would say very few get taken out, on average. I take all I want, need, and can catch..... and in the few years I have been at it, I have seen absolutely zero effect. One weed bed in particular I think gave up 100 + keeper bluegills for me last summer. As soon as the holiday crowd clears out, I am going to hit up this spot, and I can all but guarantee you a basket of 8-9" quality fish out if the first trip. Those are the big boys around here.
