Default March Brown by Bob Jacklin

    Hi,

For those who might not know Bob Jacklin, he is a long, long-time guide and shop owner in West Yellowstone. A man of slight stature, but more exuberance than probably anyone I know.

Anyway, I think his March Brown nymph is about the best I've seen and I thought I would share a pic of it with you.

    Thanks for looking:

Bob's fun to watch at tying seminars. At the end he takes requests. Will tie any fly anybody ever heard of. That's not easy to do.

The man who coined the phrase "Money can't buy happiness", never bought himself a good fly rod!

I agree. I have one of his originals he gave me at a show in Somerset, NJ, one year. I fished his pattern this year and had a blast.

Bob is one of the nicest guys out there. Having the pleasure to speak with him in his shop a couple of years ago. The guy is just wonderful to speak with.

I wasn't aware that Bob Jacklin is no longer tying flies commercially. He tied several dozen flies for a friend of mine 2-3 years ago, of which I got approximately 2 dozen. Mine include a half dozen green drake duns, a half dozen green drake spinners, and a half dozen large parachute spinner pattern of Jacklin's origin.

I wasn't aware anyone said he wasn't still tying??? I bought several of his flies last summer. He simply charges a bit of a premium for those he ties as opposed to the imports.

My somewhat feeble attempt at his pattern:

I don't think Bob ties many of the flies found in the fly bins in his shop anymore. But I don't think he ever stops tying. You can tell how much he loves it when he's doing it. He beams like a light beacon. If you want flies actually tied by Bob you just have to talk to him.

He still ties plenty. His flies are in the bins. His are marked by being stuck through a little yellow tag. His are about 50-75 cents more is all.

Its good to hear that a premium tied fly can still attract a premium price.

    Cheers,
