    Default Wooden motors......

There is a pair of 9' wooden motors that came with a driftboat we just aquired. They are NOT new and we believe we want to get a spare. Is there a reason to use 10' oars as opposed to these shorter ones? Anybody have opinions on oar length? Questioning getting a pair of 10's and useing a 9' for the spare or just sticking with the 9's and getting only one.

I've used 9 1/2' oars on my 16' Clackacraft and Hyde low profile driftboats, and they seem to be just the right size for those boats. Shorter oars might be better for a smaller drift boat, and 10' oars might be okay for a bigger boat, although oar length is partially a matter of personal preference. I have a breakdown oar as a spare, and I would probably want it the same size as my other oars in case I had to use it for any distance in case of an emergency.
