I don't normally chime in on stuff like this but, this one hit close to home. I to like to experiment with different patterns, mostly streamers but, I say, have at it and have fun. The worst thing that could happen is you don't catch any fish but, in my opinion any warm water fish will take just about anything so, if you don't catch trout, you will certainly catch other fish.
