I was walking through the local Michaels craft store this afternoon...

Saw this little caterpillar thingy....got to thinking about it.

So I bought one, took it home, and killed it. Cut off a couple of sections and then cut the sections into strips.

Don't know anything about how well the fly will hold up, but I know it will catch fish, especially smallmouth.

What I did here was a first effort, basically palmering the material around the shank. Probably are other ways to use it that only time will tell.

I like that! Great imagination there Buddy. I bet trout would get explosive if you modified the fly by removing the tail and letting about a half inch to three quarters of the material hang over the bend.

Ya shoulda just got a big enough hook and threaded the thingy on it whole...

At least for the size fish I'd be hoping for.

Back in the '80's someone came out with a plastic worm that look about like that. Had great feel to it, the spikes with supposed to catch air bubbles and attract fish. I think that dog will hunt.
