I took my Dad fishing this weekend at a small stream in SW PA,(neither of us is getting younger). We were having a pretty good Green Drake hatch through the afternoon and the Coffin Fly spinners were out by the hundreds. All in all a really nice day with Dad.

My question is this; I've not fished alot with dries and I had several fish come up under the fly and swirl, roll, wiggle and perform all kinds of exotic gyrations for several seconds under the fly but never take it. Any ideas on what that was all about? I caught lots of fish that day so I don't think my technique was all that bad, granted I've still got a lot to learn but I've never seen fish dance under a dry fly like that, ever. Anybody have any insight as to what causes this bizarre behavior?
