Over the last few days the weather has been perfect. No wind, 80 degrees and bright sunshine. Takes by bream have been soft and many were missed until I came across the secret fly. I took the Bikini Spider pattern http://www.flyanglersonline.com/fotw...tw20110314.php and downsized it to fit on a size 14 hook and used "fine" rubber legs (available from jannsnetcraft.com) instead of standard legs. All of a sudden I was catching not fishing and even though many were small, catching is always fun.
This was a clear but olive colored lake no deeper than 6 feet, and the best colors were bright green and yellow with black legs. I think orange would work, but didn't have any small orange spiders made.
I hung a size 16 boudreaux below the fly sometimes and would occasionally get a double.
No bass except for one fingerling, but a couple of big orange belly male bluegill and a big crossbreed that thought he wanted to break my 3wt.
Fun stuff.
