I was fishing the catch and release area of the North fork of the White river (below norfork dam) and hung in to a large trout. It was only about 5 feet away from me when it surfaced and rolled and in the process dragged the tippet across its teeth cutting the line immediately. I could see it clearly and estimated it would have been in the 10 lb range. I was using a 7x tippet. Does anyone think a larger diameter tippet would stand up to sharp teeth or would you have to go so large as to loose all stealth value. Do you think landing large fish on light weight gear involves a certain amount of luck or is there something I could have done to increase my chances of landing it.
