What pound fluorescent orange amnesia butt material would I need for 3, 4, 5 weight lines? Would I need the 20-pound?

Lastchance, that is what I use for those line weights.
For heavier weight lines, I use the 25 or 30 pound, I forget which.
I used a perfection loop at the end and try to make the loop very small. That will help it go through the tip top.
I also use some Loon UV to smooth the nail not connection to the fly line.
That mono loop does add weight to the tip, so I try to be conservative with the Amnesia. It can tend to make the tip of a floating line sink.
Hope this helps.
I use 20, 25, or 30. I try to match the stiffness of the amnesia or any mono that I use for a permanent leader butt so that is similar in stiffness or slightly more flexible than the end of the fly line. If the mono butt section is too limp or to stiff then the leader will not lay out correctly. For most of the 5 and 6 wt lines that I use this ends up being 25lb. For my 2 through 4 wts I use 20lb.
2 and 3 weights I use 20# Butt material, 4-6 I use 25# and above that I use 30#.
Good question. I personally don't go over 20lb and usually try to keep it around 15-16. I may be wrong in my thinking; however, I seem to remember that the core strength of a WF 6F line that I use is about 20 to 22 pounds. So, my reasoning is that if I happen to snag up really bad and have a heavy butt, or leader or tippet -- depending on what your fishing for - you have the potential for breaking the fly line as opposed to the leader, etc. I want to have my terminal gear lighter than the breaking strength of the line. Hope it helps.
You need a heavier butt in the leader to properly transfer the energy from the flyline thru the leader to the fly for proper presentation (unfurling). Most important for a dry fly leader, not so much for nymph, wet, or streamer.
Bruce, I am using the 15# on the 3 wt and 20# on a 5 wt for heavier rigs.
