    Default Tip Rings

I have found some oval shaped tip rings. Other than the obvious of the shape is there any difference between the two?

Why do you see the need for rings?

I like the idea of just tying a cinch knot rather than doing the loop knot then conecting.

There are two things I will not use....

    Clinch knot...not even the improved...

    and TMC 200 hook

Okay, I'll bite, what don't you like about the TMC 200? Just curious. I have a few, but not many left. And...what knot do you use in place of a clinch knot?

Too many missed hookups with that hook...makes some flies look better though...so I think it appeals to the fisherman.

Trilene knot if I want something like the clinch but mostly use the non slip mono loop knot ala Lefty.

Of course your mileage may vary but I'm not alone in those observations....however ....if John Scott makes the clinch work pay attention ...he's a fishing machine

    John,

I have never used a tip ring and have fished furled leaders for four years, but am very excited to put some on my leaders. My friends have actually asked me about them, and requested them as well. I have made a few for my father in law and then showed him what a tip ring looks like and he cant wait to get one, as he would prefer to just tie the clinch knot. The oval rings I have found are either 2x3mm up to 3x5mm. I will add a picture of t orhem in this post. I can't really see an advantage or disadvantage yet so I ordered some of both and will see what the difference is I guess.

On a lighter note. Kaboom1 does not like Tippet Rings but I do! Yet you will find us standing side by side at several Fly Fishing Shows touting the advantages of the Furled Leader. The next one will be the Trout Fest in Townsend, TN. It's all about fly fishing, that's all!
