Hopper Time in Texas

Walked out front, hopper nymphs were browsing in the flower beds. Time to dig out the foam and deer hair!

Here in the panhandle it is supposed to get down to between 25 and 30 degrees or so tomorrow night, so it will be a while before hopper time arrives up here.

Back when I used to frequent the panhandle a couple of times a year someone told me "There's nothing between Amarillo and Canada but a rusty barbed wire fence, and it's down most of the time." The last time I was in Amarillo I saw the temperature swing from 72 deg. to a wind chill of minus 40 in about 36 hours.

But one of the prettiest ladies of my generation I know is a native of Borger, although she was happy to have escaped to Tomball.

I have heard the cliche "if you don't like the weather stay around and it will change" from coast to coast, but I think it was originally in Amarillo.

Lubbock's not much better. I overheard a lady explaining the West Texas wine industry, he told the visitor "We only get 17 inches of rain per year. You should be here the day it comes."
