Default WHITE RIVER SPECIAL - Fly of the week - Feb 27, 2012

    WHITE RIVER SPECIAL

This fly was designed by Bob Krause. He fishes it down and across and then strips it back. He has most of his success with the olive colored variety. An advantabe of the White River Special over the standard wooly bugger is that it does not twist your tippet. Recently (Jan '09) Bob Jensen and Bob Krause were fishing the Norfork. They were trying everything, and being skunked. They switched to White River Specials and finished up with a great day!

Nice fly but I can't say I've ever had a Bugger twist my leader.

It's the tippet that twists not the leader. We use 5,6,& 7X

Oh, okay; I could see that happening with tippet that thin. What do the fish take the flies for, damsel nymphs?
