I don't claim complex flies help to catch a fish. I just like to tie them. My only rule is it shouldn't hurt. I mean...if they catch fish just as well as a simpler pattern. Then it's OK to make them. I have to wear 5x jeweler's goggles to make these. #24 hooks are almost absurdly small.

Extended body: tied on a #13 beading needle. Duck flight feather fiber wound on top of duck flank, wetted with fabric cement just prior to the winding, and then slid off the needle. #15 beading needles make a tighter, better extended body (because of the thinner needle). But they're very hard to find. I've thought about mail-ordering acupuncture needles. But haven't done it yet.
