The Lower Illinois River is the closest. I haven't fished it recently but I have been hearing some good reports.

If you are a member of the Classic Fly Rod Forum get in touch with flyfisherman1955.
I'm sure he can help you a lot!
When you can arrange your affairs to go fishing, forget all the signs, homilies, advice and folklore. JUST GO.
That's real close to Swamp Witch country, watch you step and don't kick any toads. It might be someone you know.

Depending on where in NE OK you're talking about, you might think about jumping the border to fish Roaring River SP in Missouri. It's stocked daily like any of the trout parks, but the spring is a good one and I've always found the stockers to be big, plus there's a C&R section in the middle (one of the few sections you're allowed to wade) that always has a few monsters. Look under the bridge.
