I used to worry about this on my vise with the standard jaws. I got one to compliment my original Regal with the Stainless Steel jaws that have a finer taper. I haven't had that problem with the SS (or the original for that matter). The SS jaws will tye flies from 22 up to sz 2. I love my Regals. Spend the extra $$$ and get the bronze base with the pockets in it. Great for tying bead head flies!
