    Default Backpack Recommendations. Sage DXL

I'm looking for something I can take on day trips and keep on my back when I fish.

I saw this Sage Backpack on Amazon. Certainly it's less expensive than other ones. I
don't know if I can get a pair of waders into it.

I wouldn't buy a pack sight unseen, any more than I would buy a pair of shoes without trying them on. If it doesn't fit just right, it will either be a pain the back or rub you raw somewhere. Look around. There are a LOT of good packs out there in the $100 and under range, from a lot of manufacturers.

Now that is just plain funny.
Isn't winter grand - just way too much time on our hands.

Yes, that is funny. But how much under $100?

BTW, I love the Orvis Gale Force but it's pricey.

Given the dimensions ( 19.5" x 8" x 11.5" ), this will pack somewhere around 1700 cubic inches, probably a bit less. Strikes me as too small, especially if you are planning to carry anything else in it.

This pack has been with me to some fun places and hauls a ton if "packed" correctly. I tight roll everything.

Googling some reviews of the pack give a lot more info. Here's just one of many. http://www.deneki.com/2011/05/sage-d...ckpack-review/

I was cruising the MRFC.com clearance section and saw this pack on sale for $69.95. If I was in the market for this type pack, I would jump on it.

I use a couple of packs, depending on where I am going. If I have to take a lot of stuff, I use my old Marine ALICE pack. I can tell you from experience, you can live out of an ALICE forever. For moving fast and light, like on my bicycles, I use one of several daypacks I got from Walmart for around $14.00. For the money, they can't be beat. For extended long hikes, like over-night, and when I don't want the weight of my full ALICE Pack (50+ pounds, easily), I have a hunting pack I also got at Walmart, that holds everything I need for an overnight trip, or even for a few days of roughing it, and it even straps on my Kayak. I seldom use a tent, so that saves a lot of space. I mostly use my Jungle Hammock, or a Bivy Sack to sleep in, or sometimes, I just sleep on the ground. I get my food in the woods, and purify water from the streams, if I use up my 4 canteens worth. I don't take much with me, preferring "In-Country" supply as much as possible. If I needed to, I can make a shelter from local materials.

Aside from my fishing rod, and flies, the most important thing I carry is several knives. As long as I have them, I can deal with anything that comes up. And, in an emergency, I do know how to flint-knap....
