JUST IN CASE YA DIDN'T KNOW

Minnesota became the 32nd state on May 11, 1858 and was originally settled by a lost tribe of Norwegians seeking refuge from the searing heat of Wisconsin's winters.

Minnesota gets its name from the Sioux Indian word "mah-nee-soo-tah," meaning, "No, really... They eat fish soaked in lye."

I fell of the chair on a few of those.
No lye with any of my fish.

I love Minnesota in July. I would like to fish Lake Mille Lacs when I couldn't walk on it like I did one January. I had a great work associate when Grand Casino was based in Minneapolis. I was amazed when Scott told me the ponds in MN had no fish because they froze completely in winter; he was amazed when he came south that all of our ponds were full of fish. He caught the largest bluegill he had ever seen in north MS in February.

My dad's best friend from WWII was a farm boy from Laverne, Alvin lost a finger picking corn when it was 20 below. I never found out if he got it caught in a cornpicker or if it just broke off.

It's a beautiful state with great people but best avoided from November until the end of April.
