From Wikipedia: Fly Tyer was spun off of American Angler magazine in 1995, when it became clear that the market would support a fly-tying specific publication. Fly Tyer was also the original name of the publication that became American Angler.
Dave,
I went through my issues and here is how they were named:
From 1978 to the Fall of 1985 they were called Flytyer
From Spring 1986 to Winter 1988 they were called American Flytyer
From Winter 1988 to January 1991 they were called American Angler& Flytyer
Starting in January 1991 to the present they are called American Angler.
I have all except the first year through 1995 in ten matching hard bound books. I still get the magazine but stopped having them bound in 1996.
Hope this helps.
Dave
Dave, Thank you....that confirms what I have. The confusing part was that American Angler continued after 1994 when FlyTyer started up again. I have all of the American Anglers too.
Did you work for a company where you were able to get your copies bound? I wonder how expensive that would be? Is there a way that you could send me a couple different photos of the binder? Selectivefly@aol.com Right now I have each magazine in a 3 ring plastic sleeve and then stored in 3 ring binders ( 11 of them ).

Dave,
Yes. I worked in the Research dept. and each year we sent off some of the technical journals for binding and I just added mine to the bunch. As I recall, it only cost about $10 or so for each volume and they did a beautiful job. the company was bought out and I retired and I've never found another place to do it without shipping them off and that gets costly. I just put them in slip cases now.
I'll be glad to send you some photos. My wife got a new camera for Christmas so I can try it out. It may take me a few days.
