    Default Mustad to be Bought

Apparently Mustad is about to be bought by an investment firm. http://www.wired2fish.com/Mustad-Hoo...ny-WhatsUp6091

I have been a fan of Mustad hooks for several years. I am a little (OK a lot) concerned to see them up for sale. Was I the last person in the world to realize this?

Sounds like good news to me. With the infusion of cash hopefully we will see more, not less of Mustad hooks. At some point I hope Dr. Fish can chime in to tell us more, but it may be a while since the deal is not final.

Mustad are my all time favorite hooks. I'm more than a little concerned also.

From my personal experience, when an investment group buys a company, it is bad news for quality, the employees, and the future of the company.

I would agree with you when it comes to American investment companies, but I have found it to be the opposite with European investment companies. I'll hope for the best.

I'm glad I stocked up. I love their hooks. Now I'm thinking I may need more...

Our company used to be owned by a privately held investment company and it was great for us. It was after we were sold to a publicly held company in our own industry that we went to Hades in a handbag. It's never been the same. Time will tell what this means for them.

The worst part of that article is that the interested party is an investment company.

An investment company is a company whose main business is holding securities of other companies purely for investment purposes. The investment company invests money on behalf of its shareholders who in turn share in the profits and losses.

I have worked for 3 companies that were purchased by Investment Companies. Within 1-2 years they were pumped up, shaken up, remolded and re-sold. Long term employees were replaced....nasty business.

That is why I started my own business 13 years ago. I never looked back.

My advise...stock up on your favorite hooks. There is no guarantee that they will still be available down the road.

I'll take a wait and see about this one. Sometimes acquisitions can assure a future for a company top loaded with retirement age patricarchs ( http://joshuagreencorp.com/ ). Look how well Hardy rods are doing now, positive product changes at Abel, etc.
