I own two vises, one that stays on my bench and one that goes with me on trips that span a couple of days. Peak vises rock for what you get out of them, I've been tying with it for 3 years and change and love this thing. I have however added a few pieces to it. D-Arm makes using rotary features easier and midge jaws. I would recommend the D-Arm to everyone, and if you tie small like I do, get the midge jaws if at all possible should you go this route. Possibly Salt Jaws, if you tie larger flies. The standard jaws cover a good range, but I find the midge jaws to be much better tying smaller bugs.

Feather Craft has a package where you get tools, the vise, a DVD and another set of jaws--you choose for $250. That's a pretty killer deal for a new tier who wants to start off with a solid set IMHO or somebody who got into tying and wants to significantly upgrade their existing setup. Love the dubbing brush that comes with it.

The Regal traveler is nice in that it's simple and packs down well for taking with me. Not a true rotary, but none the less a super vise to tie with. I prefer the Peak though.

This is a very good read for anyone looking for vises:

Lastly,as was mentioned if you have your eye on a vise that some local forum members use, see if you can hook up with them to test it out. This is great advise. If you don't want or don't care to dabble in the rotary feature, there are a TON of good options out there. Peak even makes one that doesn't have the rotary feature, much like the standard vise and you can swap out the jaws on this one too. Can't say enough good things about the Peak.

Good luck, let us know what you end up with.
