You can make your own "Casting Flies", with some cheap hooks.

Hook: Larger size 10, maybe even a longer shank streamer hook.
Thread: Bright Color (Red, Yellow, Orange, whatever you have).
Soft Hackle: Bright Color loose hen hackle(Red, Yellow, Orange, whatever you have) (sold in packets).

1. Start just behind eye, tightly dress shank of hook with thread to the rear of the shank, reverse before coming to the curve, return the wrappings back to the start position (either by tight wraps, or ribbing).

2. Half Hitch thread on hook shank.

3. Secure wing material and wrap front of hook shank behind eye, secure with Half Hitch.

4. Whip Finish Head.

5. Using wire cutter, snip off rear portion of hook behind the thread wrap.

Very easy to tie some up and have available for casting practice. Or just snip off the rear portion of the hook from your fly box.
