I got out on Friday, the Smallies fishing was tough. I got 4 Smallies on a brown and MC worm, the largest was 12",all the fish hit when the fly was hanging down below me. All Day I noticed bizillions of Mayflys, some Caddis, and even some Crane flies. I didn't think nothing of it. I called my friend Pete see if he was interested in some fishing. He meet me late afternoon. We started fishing a run and noticed all the rise forms of fish taking Mayflies. Pete had mention that the Smallies were taking mayflies, at which I said they were probably small fish. He puts on a floating mayfly nymph and catches a 14" Smallie. Needless to say guess whos looking for any kind of small bugs which would be in my Smalliebox which usually go bigger is better. I tried a small blk. popper, different gurglers blk, and wht. nada. Finnaly Pete asked if I wanted a Floating hares ear nymph, thank you Pete.In the mean time he was catching what seem like every Smallie in the run, but their were fish rising everywhere. We caught a bunch of Smallies on Mayfly nymphs the biggest being 17 1/2 " a couple of 16", and many 15"- 13" Smallies. It was a very interesting evening of fishing something I had never seen before.
