Default UPDATE: Dave McNeese FINALLY RETURNED My 2.4 Trout Reel

UPDATE: Apparently a little public flogging and filing a complaint with the regional BBB works. I have my reel back after 3 years for a simple conversion to LHW. Dave even made the conversion. I'll give him credit for "better late than never". Unfortunately, I no longer want anything to do with the reel. Bummer it had to come to this.

    Hey Split-Cane,

I'm sorry to hear you're having problems with the guy, I've noticed of late he's been getting zinged for this type of thing, more so with custom rod builds.

Several years ago I spent about a year trying to get a set of pawl springs for my McNeese A/R Permit reel from him, promises followed by more promises......never happened.
Finally, the guys at Abel set me up with a pair of springs that fit and work perfectly. This sort of thing really tanks the value of what is otherwise an excellent & very pricey piece of equipment.

Seems his reputation for quality work is very good, if you can get any work out of him...

Split-cane. Know how you feel. A few months back I sent a check for some flies and nothing ever happened. I got dinged also. The thing is that I can't remember his name and I just kept hoping just maybe, just maybe something would come my way. Truly believe Karma take care of this type of lowlife eventually. Will say that I have bought numerous books, two beautiful rods (custom built), three boxes of odd and sundry flies on this site. FAOL is a fabulous site and just a wealth of knowledge from some of the finest people that ply the waters. Don.t know anyone on the site personally but after awhile they become like my family and they make me smile. Just keep trusting this wonderful collection of truly remarkable trout lovers and their environs and stories and pictures of such real souls. Ya just gotta believe my friend and I am sure you do. Have a smooth day and tight lines. Michael J.

Is there any legal recourse for something such as this?
I'm certainly no lawyer but theft is theft.

Is he a member of FAOL?

When you can arrange your affairs to go fishing, forget all the signs, homilies, advice and folklore. JUST GO.

I believe there is recourse. It is called "Mail Fraud" and I think it can be referred to the postmaster and they will take action on it. I believe this to be the case. just my 2 cents. I think he can get in BIG doo doo if it is referred to the post office.

I,m sure that you already tried calling him to ask him about your reel, but if not this is the contact information he has on his website.

Like others I got stiffed on an internet purchase of a saltwater fly reel. I sent the money in the form of a US Postal Money order at the sellers request and got nothing. When I contacted the local post office, they said that they cashed the US Postal money orders without asking for any ID. The local law enforcement was called (he had taken several people's money) but the guy had moved out.

Good luck and I hope that you get your reel back in perfect shape.
