Ugly Places

"Trout don't live in ugly places". You've all heard this quoted repeatedly over the years. I guess it would depend on your definition of "ugly". I know that trout live in beautiful places all over the planet, but I'm curious to know the most unusual (ok, ugly) places that you have found trout. I'll start. In Tennessee, just upstream from Chatanooga a ways, is a cave. In this cave is a large underground lake that can be navigated by boat. In the water, under the artificial lights, can be seen respectable size rainbow trout. I wouldn't necessarily call the place ugly, but it was sure unusual to see trout (or any fish) in that setting. Anybody else?

Ascarate lake in El Paso TX comes to mind. Others include Wiest Lake near Brawley CA, Sunbeam Lake near El Centro CA, and Corona Lake near Corona CA. All of these are stocked during cooler times of the year.

Rarely is the water "ugly". But I've caught stocker trout from some small lakes with relatively featureless or unattractive shorelines. Banner Pits, Lake Petoka, and Ankeny DMACC Pond....all in central Iowa.
