Default HARE AND HERL - FOTW - September 12, 2011

    HARE AND HERL

This is a pattern I came up with and is doing very well at catching trout for me. I am very fond of Peter Frailey's Web site and his "Hare & Herl Bugger" and his pattern inspired me to try this. It is not a difficult pattern to tie up. You will notice in the step-by-step tying instructions that I tie in "reverse" and you can tie it whichever way best suits you.

    Warren,

Nice intructions and a heck of a good looking fly. I am glad to see you share your knowledge like so many others on FAOL. Now I guess a new fly is in order for me.

    Bob,

Glad you like the pattern. I have always liked the "Hare & Herl" that Peter Frailey showed on his Web site and one day I decided to try Ostrich herl instead of Peacock and I have had success with it every trip to the river. Give it a try. It also works great tied on a #14 streamer hook and has a small profile. I guess I could call it the "Hare & Ostrich"!

    Take care my friend.....

Fly fishing and fly tying are two things that I do, and when I am doing them, they are the only 2 things I think about. They clear my mind.

Like the patterns. Will have to tie up a few each way and see how the warmwater fishes like them.
