I don't know if you have a physical therapist or not, ut when you are to the point when you are allowed, flexibility exercises for your foot and ankle might do some real good in helping to revive your calf muscles. When I broke my ankle & leg, I had burns to go along with it and so couldn't wear a cast. As soon as I was allowed, I started the exercises and pursued them on as vigourous a timetable as the doctor allowed. It really did help. I think that it also helps with the itching.
