Default JAX OLIVE GINGER MICK - Fly of the week - August 1, 2011

    JAX OLIVE GINGER MICK

This is my version of an old New Zealand pattern that has stood the test of time and, has proved to be a good fish fetcher for me either in Lakes or River and Stream fishing.

Jax: Just converted the " Jax Olive Ginger Mick"over to PDF for the FAOL "Fly Pattern CD". This latest edition from you to the FAOL "FOTW" folder on my computer, gives you seven "FOTW" articles. ~Parnelli

Thanks Parnelli; Nice to know my efforts in fly tying are appreciated and I hope are being enjoyed by the fishers on the site. Jax

    Jax,

That is a great looking fly. I know some deep holes that I will be fishing that one through. I don't think a fish could resist eating that one. Well done.

    Hi Jax,

That's a nice variation! What size hook are you using for these? I generally use a Black Magic B series, size 10 for my matuka's (that's a size 10, 2x length shank in a more generic description). If you're fishing around the Waiteti, I've found a copper dorothy, with a copper rib and blue tail tuft, works well. It can be hard to find the flat copper tinsel, and if the shops aren't stocking the Uni mylar of copper/blue, then some of the craft shops will have metalic copper embroidery yarn - and this is just a flat tinsel wrapped around a thread core.

Hi Jeff; I use Black Magic. B6 to B12 with the B6 being for Rivers with B8 and B10 for the lakes.

Like your suggestion of a Copper Dorothy for Waiteti. Will have to give one or two a swim. Thanks. Jax
