Default NJ Saltwater Registry - News to me...

I'm heading to NJ soon for a week at the shore with the family and plan to do as much fly fishing as I can squeeze in. While doing a little research online, I discovered that one must now register with the NJ Saltwater Recreational Registry to fish the salt in NJ, even if you are already registered with the National Saltwater Registry. This went into place the beginning of May 2011. You can only sign up online, and here is the link:

I had heard nothing about this, and would have been very disappointed if I had be nailed for not being registered. Unlike the national registry, the NJ one is free, which is a big plus. Anyway, I thought this would be good to pass along in case it will help someone.

    It's free to register
    But a $300 fine if you don't

I believe all coastal states have this now. Its a federal requirement handed down to the states. MA is free if you are over 60 years old.

Maine is also free to register (for the time being)

What was the surprise was that NJ has their own and that the National registry is not sufficient there as it was in the past. I guess if I lived in NJ I would have heard about it, but I live in PA and come down one week a year. Since you can only register online and must print out your own card, I would have been out of luck when I got there.
