Stripping guards question.
I just got some guards and they work great. At 5 bucks for 3ea my question is have any of you found a material that works as well. I was thinking of a pair of silk or satin gloves and just cut the fingers off to use as stripping guards. Have any ideas ????
Those guards are usually made from lycra. I have using the guards sold under the "Petersen's" label for about 10 years now. The do eventually wear out but are fairly durable. The lycra works well because it is a stretchable yrt lightweight fabric that easily adapts to different finger sizes. I haven't found anything that works as well. Its not to difficult to make your own, but even though I have a sewing machine at home I don't find the investment in time to be worthwhile. The online shop Sealevel Flyfishing sells their guards for 4 fo $5. But due to shipping it is npt cost effective unless purchasing other item. I usually pool with other anglers and get 8-15 packages at a time . I keep quite a few on hand myself because I keep 2 or 3 hand in each of my 6 ready to go tackle bags plus float tube.

I use the lycra guards as well. However, in a pinch I have been known to use a bandaid. The fabric type, not the plastic.
If it swims and eats, it'll eat a fly.
