Born to Fish...Forced to Work !
That is one of NZ's most popular tourist rides, they do have a good safety record, but every now and then one of the boats gets too close and hits a rock. I think from memory last year they had 2 incidents that resulted in broken limbs! No one really fishes the shotover river, there is much better water not far away.
Jet boats can be a problem on some South Island rivers, but on some of those rivers they are the only way to access the water. Rafters are more of a problem on some of the North Island rivers, I have had situations were I have made the effort to tramp a long way to fish a pool and then not long after arriving 4 or 5 rafts full of tourists or kids come floating down right through the lie, on one occasion I even had a raft run me over in the middle of a 70 meter wide riffle!
Anyhow if you like thrills and spills like jumping off bridges, white water rafting and jet boating NZ is the place to be, come on down.
All the best.
Mike
I think I should have watched it before lunch and not after..............oh my, not for me............
I rode the Shotover Jet boats on a trip to NZ in the 90's. It was fun. More fun than a roller coaster I thought, but not as exhilarating as rafting class IV rapids.
