i love to take newbies fishing. they arrive with all sorts of rules they've been taught. they are quite surprised when i make a few suggestions in the spirit of "whatever works." gee--more than one way to tie on a fly? more than one way to fish a nymph? more than one way to cast?
as soon as a neophyte begins to think for him/herself on the water and not worry if it's the "right" way, the sooner they have fun and begin to solve problems on their own.
