Well, boys, I've been there too, and truly, it happens more & more that I feel crowded. Me, I'd never move in on a guy closer than 65 - 70 yards on a small stream or river. I'll wait 'em out up in the brush if I really wanna drift their spot. I've had a few cconfrontations over this stuff, and always stayed mad a while after, and it certainly messed up my happy mojo at the very least.
When my boy was maybe 10, we were fishin the Rogue for trout. I looks upstream to see a salmon fisherman yellin at him about crowding. my boy never got closer than 100 yards of the guy. when I intervened, the guy went off big, and I ended up chuckin him in the river to punctuate my position. He left the vicinity, but it could have gone another way.
That was, like 12 years ago, and I've felt crowded many times since, but now I see it like Warren more, and just let it run off my back.
That was the last head to head I've had, but not the first, and I've gotten more tactful in my old age, but I still will follow Warren's words in the future. Dave, too, has what I think is a good perspective. But, like Larry, I usually let 'em know I'm unhappy, maybe with a look, or just an attitude.
Truly, I like to think most fishermen are gentlemen, and I figure to teach that by example, and be gracious and generous even if some knothead just insists on rubbin' my fur backwards....................................Modoc Dan
