.......and I would never go to the Greater Yellowstone Area without bear spray if you intend to leave your car and take to the trails. Hopefully you'll never find your self in a situation where the need arises to use it. You need to wear it where it can be accessed easily. It won't do you any good in your back pack. You can get away without it if you're one of those who sticks to the main roads and main attractions with lots of people around. The man that died there this year was one mile from his car and trail head, which is a busy attraction in the center of the park. If you intend on fishing while in the park, you probably don't fall into the the safety in numbers category. A "pistol" will just buy you a heap load of trouble and a very false sense of security. You're better off with a bear banger ...and bear spray.
