    Default Lake Trout and Grayling...

Just got back from an annual trip for lake trout and grayling... I have written about past trips previously and this is the same place we took Denny a couple years ago. But this year the lake trout were in... Oh my were they in! I do not count fish and never use a tape measure, but I will post some pictures. We had a great time and lake trout fishing was occasionally incredible over the three days we fished for them. We often had triple hook-ups with 5 people fishing.

An old buddy from college came this year to meet grayling and lake trout for the first time... He also caught his first humpback whitefish, which is a worthy gamefish compared to any other, and nothing like any other whitefish. We caught quite a few of them. The biggest lake trout were probably in the under 10 pound range and the smallest were about 18". Average was likely in the low to mid 20" range.

Poppers were the most fun as they attacked them with serious fury, but large silvery smolt patterns did the best work.

More later and perhaps a few photos.

Can hardly wait for the photos!, how big are the whitefish?
    All the best.

Humpbacks get pretty big, say 7-8 pounds for the biggest, but we caught nothing over 20" or so... and the average was probably 14" or thereabouts. A 14" humpback will fight and jump like crazy. They look a lot like bonefish and have the same sort of attitude, though I would never suggest any freshwater fish fights as hard as a bonefish.
